Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most commonly asked questions and the answers. If you cannot find what you are looking for please do get in touch with me directly.

A: The purpose of the 5 week course is to help enhance the connection between you and your baby that began in pregnancy and birth. It can be a lovely quality time to spend with your baby and can be continued throughout their childhood.

I offer a series of workable and proven techniques to massage your baby which can also help with common baby ailments.

Each class covers a different part of the routine and I include massage ideas for your baby when they are older and a specific routine for those babies suffering from colic.

A: First and foremost - yourself and your baby!

I provide mats and towels and you will be supplied with a bottle of massage oil at the first class and a copy of the massage routine.

As each class is taken mainly on the floor please remember to wear something comfortable.

The classes are baby led.  By that I mean that if you need to change, feed or care for your baby you should always feel comfortable to do so.

There is always an opportunity to review anything you miss and your baby should come first.

After massage your baby may be thirsty and tired so try to come prepared with anything you may need for that.

Q: How old should my baby be for massage?

A: This is a very personal choice. You are always welcome to attend my classes however young your baby may be, as I always have extra massage dolls to practise on if your baby is asleep.

The optimum age for starting massage classes is around 8 - 12 weeks.  By then your baby is likely to have longer periods of being awake without needing feeding or changing and will be able to be more responsive through eye contact, smiling and communicating.

Before then your baby spends much of their time sleeping and the "awake" spells are taken up with feeding and changing!

Beyond the age of 6-9 months your baby will be more curious and active and therefore it may be more of a challenge to find a quiet time to introduce massage.

A: The classes may be held in your home, at an arranged venue, or you are welcome to come to my home with a small group.

A: Generally the cost of a 5 week course is £45.00 per mother and baby.

If you would like the course held in your own home and have a group of friends with babies we can negotiate for you as the host.

The main factors affecting any cost are the venue and how far away you may be.

Please do not hesitate to contact me either through this site or by phone or email and I will always endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.

Q: Who Massages my baby?

A: Massage time is a unique opportunity for bonding and close communication so I always recommend that it is the parent, close relative or carer.

I demonstrate all the moves on a massage doll while you follow with your own baby.

If you have twins or more your partner or another close relative/carer is welcome to come but  for the duration of each class I would recommend that only one person massages one baby.
